Lovely Lyrics: The Place Where Lost Things Go

Six months ago today, we lost our Maddy. It was unquestionably the darkest day of my life. Many other dark days followed.

Her absence has been deafening and profound.

When I saw Mary Poppins Returns a few months ago, I fell in love with the soundtrack, and in particular, with this song.

Maddy is one of my Lost Things.

The Place Where Lost Things Go
from Mary Poppins Returns

Do you ever lie awake at night?
Just between the dark and the morning light
Searching for the things you used to know
Looking for the place where the lost things go

Do you ever dream or reminisce?
Wondering where to find what you truly miss
Well maybe all those things that you love so
Are waiting in the place where the lost things go

Memories you've shed
Gone for good you feared
They're all around you still
Though they've disappeared

Nothing's really left
Or lost without a trace
Nothing's gone forever
Only out of place

So maybe now the dish
And my best spoon
Are playing hide and seek
Just behind the moon
Waiting there until
It's time to show
Spring is like that now
Far beneath the snow
Hiding in the place
Where the lost things go

Time to close your eyes so sleep can come around
For when you dream you'll find all that's lost is found
Maybe on the moon or maybe somewhere new
Maybe all you're missing lives inside of you

So when you need her touch and loving gaze
Gone but not forgotten is the perfect phrase
Smiling from a star that she makes glow
Trust she's always there watching as you grow
Find her in the place where the lost things go

While I was reading about guilt and grief earlier today, I came across a blog post written by Alyssa Limperis. Even though our situations differ – she was writing about the loss of her father while I continue to grieve the loss of Maddy – I am convinced that we can find solace in someone perfectly capturing our feelings in a way that we ourselves have been unable to articulate:

"And I can feel lucky that I still have that love.
Feel lucky that that kind of love
doesn’t go away with a body.
It stays with me, I’m built from it.
I’m made up of that kind of mighty love."

C, Ginny, and I have survived the past six months because we hold on to the memory of Maddy's mighty love.

Happy Tails to you…

WDW February 2019

We were supposed to stay at Art of Animation for three nights during this trip, but back in December, the blog we follow posted about a sale on Disney resorts through Priceline. We had never used Priceline, but thought we'd look into it even though we don't like the idea of not knowing what hotel you're getting before you pay. C did some research and looked at the ratings and map and figured out that our chances were pretty good for getting a deluxe resort. We decided to go for it, figuring even if we didn't get a great resort, the price was too awesome to pass up because it was much less per night than Art of Animation.

Well, it turned out to be Animal Kingdom Lodge! When we checked in, we knew we wouldn't be getting a savannah-view room, but we were fine with that because we were saving money while staying at a significantly nicer hotel. As you'll see in photos below, we still lucked out even though our balcony overlooked a "backstage" area and we saw many animals throughout the weekend. I particularly love the giraffes, so it was awesome to watch them during our stay.

We flew on Southwest on Friday, February 1 and then home on Monday, February 4, and overall, it was a pretty relaxed weekend. We met our friends Dean and Rose for dinner and went to Magic Kingdom together – we had not seen them for about 18 months when we met up in Edinburgh! Always so fun to spend time with them! It was also the International Festival of the Arts at Epcot and we'd read there were characters painted around the World Showcase so we went on a hunt to find them. I love doing stuff like this! At Disney's Hollywood Studios, we managed to ride Slinky Dog Dash again by waiting until the end of the night and getting in line right before park closing. We've been unsuccessful at getting a fast pass for it for the last several months and I am just not willing to wait in a 60-90 minute line! On our last morning, we watched the new "Move It! Shake It! MousekeDance It!" parade/dance party at MK; while this is not normally our type of thing, it was SOOOOOOO CUTE!!!!

We have another exciting Disney adventure right around the corner…I am actually writing this post in the car as we drive to the airport!
