Lovely Lyrics: Lava

When I looked back at this blog, I was surprised to realize that I haven't written a "Lovely Lyrics" post since last Christmas!  Since I listen to music all the time - and specifically DISNEY music - I have only my workload at school to blame for not writing one of these in six months.

This song, however, cannot be ignored.

If you have not seen Inside Out yet, you are likely unfamiliar with this song because it is from the short that is showing before Inside Out.  Well, the movie has been out for over 10 days, so I feel like I've done my part in waiting to post anything about it until now!  If you haven't see Inside Out yet, all I can say is this:

This short, Lava, was worth the price of admission alone.

I know I gush a lot about Disney and Pixar movies.  I will not apologize for that because they are phenomenal.  I love pretty much anything that either studio produces, with few exceptions.  I had been looking forward to Inside Out for months.  I figured that the combination of Pixar and Amy Poehler was guaranteed magic.

(Side note:  I love any and every single thing Amy Poehler does and I would be entertained listening to her read me the dictionary; she and Julia Louis-Dreyfus are THE funniest people on the planet in my opinion.)

It was exactly two weeks ago tonight that I saw the movie, three days before its official opening.  And I loved it.  I thought it was much deeper and frankly, more dark, than any of the previous Pixar movies.  That's not a bad thing; just an observation.  I highly, highly, highly recommend it.

And if we are friends on Facebook or if you follow me on Instagram, you already know that I love Bing Bong.  Since I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone, I won't say anything else about it right now.

But as much as I loved Inside Out, I absolutely LOVED Lava.  The best short I've EVER seen.  I do have a long-standing, well-established, mild obsession with volcanoes (just ask my dad and pretty much every science teacher I've ever had), but that's not why I loved it.  I also love Hawaii, but that's not why I loved it.

Simply put, the animation is beautiful, the story is sweet, and the song is amazing.  I cried through the whole thing both times I saw it, and have no doubt I'll cry through it again when I see it for a third time this week.

Pixar has the ability to move even non-volcano-loving, non-Hawaii-loving folks with this short.

Run, do not walk, to the nearest theater and see this.  You will not regret it.

Lava

A long, long time ago,
there was a volcano,
living all alone
in the middle of the sea.

He sat high above his bay,
watching all the couples play,
and wishing that
he had someone, too.

And from his lava came
this song of hope
that he sang out loud,
every day, for years and years.

I have a dream
I hope will come true,
that you’re here with me
and I’m here with you.

I wish that the earth, sea,
and the sky up above,
will send me
someone to lava.

Years of singing all alone
turned his lava into stone,
until he was on
the brink of extinction.

But little did he know
that living in the sea below
another volcano
was listening to his song.

Everyday she heard his tune;
her lava grew and grew
because she believed
his song was meant for her.

Now she was so ready
to meet him above the sea
as he sang his song of hope
for the last time.

I have a dream
I hope will come true,
that you’re here with me
and I’m here with you.

I wish that the earth, sea,
and the sky up above,
will send me
someone to lava.

Rising from the sea below,
stood a lovely volcano,
looking all around,
but she could not see him.

He tried to sing to let her know
that she was not there alone,
but with no lava,
his song was all gone.

He filled the sea with his tears
and watched his dreams disappear,
as she remembered what
his song meant to her.

I have a dream
I hope will come true,
that you’re here with me
and I’m here with you.

I wish that the earth, sea,
and the sky up above,
will send me
someone to lava.

Oh, they were so happy
to finally meet above the sea!
All together now,
their lava grew and grew.

No longer are they all alone,
with “Aloha” as their new home,
and when you visit them,
this is what they sing:

I have a dream
I hope will come true,
that you’ll grow old with me
and I’ll grow old with you.

We thank the earth, sea,
and the sky, we thank, too.
I lava you…
I lava you…
I lava you!!!!

The song is available at the iTunes store!  It's currently on "repeat" on my phone.  :-)

Happy Tails to you!
