Obviously losing my mom was the most significant event of July and August. Correction: the most significant event of my life. I am lost without her. Since then, it's been nonstop...so many things to do, decisions to make, stuff to sort. Exhausting. Starting a new job has not helped matters. However, I know my mom would not want me to be sad all of the time, so I'm trying really hard not to be.
C and I went to see Jason Mraz and he put on an amazing show. We'd seen him live once before and I just love his music so much!
We went to WDW for the last weekend in August, which I posted about yesterday. We really did have a great time and knowing we’ll be going once a month will make this strange school year pass quickly!
My best friend Dan visited from Seattle and we took a fun day trip to NYC on the train. If you've ever been subjected to my long winded monologues about Togo, you'll understand how excited I was to find the statue of him!

In dealing with my mom's estate, we had to move the furniture out of her apartement at the assisted living facility. We were able to move most of the items our cars, but we had to rent a van for the couch and a large dresser. It was only 12 million degrees out, so it was a *fun* morning. It felt good to get one thing on a very long to do list checked off, though.
I started my new job on July 31 and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit overwhelmed. There's just so much NEW...new title, new contract, new schools, new colleagues, new responsibilities. It has been a lot. One of the toughest days was when I packed up and moved out of my old office. I was so sad to say goodbye to my school, my friends, my math specialist job, my short commute...change is always hard, but so many adjustments while grieving the loss of my mom has felt unbearable.
I'll miss you, weirdly-shaped-yet-somehow-perfect office |
my second home...so many memories |
part of a new team now |
the ramp I walk down to get to my office at one of my new schools - maybe a sign |
we got to choose a quote for our door |
at one of my schools, I got sorted into House Draco (all of the houses are named after constellations) and I love dragons, so I was pretty pleased |
A few random things from July and August:
happy to be a WDW passholder again |
new shoes for the new school year |
rainbow soles |
got new scrabble tile art to include Avalanche (see the former one HERE) |
a cool mileage number 2-4-6-8-10 |
new decals for my car |
The usual collection of Avalanche pics:
we've taken Avalanche for al fresco dining a few times and his behavior has been stellar |
he is afraid of thunderstorms; he plastered himself next to my leg for comfort and I loved it |
we thought he would enjoy going to an off-leash dog beach but he had zero interest and just wanted to go back to the car! |
his dramatic was of indicating he'd like to go for a car ride |
spotted deer on a walk - they stared at each other for a minute, but then went about their business |
whenever we have family over, our niece likes to make place cards and determine where each person is sitting; she made one for Avalanche |
A final thought...when I told my mom I'd accepted my new job, this was the text I received. I miss her so much.
Best.Mom.Ever. |
Happy Tails to you!
