Portugal 2021: Day 5

We took an uber this morning and we had the greatest driver ever! He was a 25-year old native of Portugal who spoke perfect English and had a great sense of humor. We spent the entire ride chatting (something I generally dislike, as I'm terrible at small talk), and covered topics that included the marvels that are Targets and Walmarts in America, the excellent availability of tacos in America, and how only foreigners live in the Lisbon and there's nothing for young people to do here because they don't want to visit castles and historical sites. A highly entertaining ride!

Our first stop of the day was the Jeronimos Monastery and the architecture was absolutely unbelievable. I took several hundred photos there and managed to pare it down to these:

After the monastery, we went Pasteis de Belem, which is a famous pastry shop known for its Portuguese custard tarts:

We then went to the National Coach Museum and saw countless carriages - some were very simple and others were opulent. It was interesting to learn about their different purposes and again, I took way too many pictures, so I'm only including a few here:

The rest of the day was spent wandering around Lisbon. It was a bit chilly, but we've heard from many people how we've really lucked out with the weather this week because there is usually a ton of rain at this time of year!

Finally, a couple of snacks to share! As we were walking today, we came across a poutine truck of all things, and then this evening, we went to a vegan ice cream and doughnut shop. Both places were super good!

Happy Tails to you!
