This was the second of two trips that had been planned pre-COVID and we paid in full and non-refundable because we rented DVC points. This trip was exactly like the one we took in July to Disney's Vero Beach resort. We basically avoided interacting with others whenever possible, wore masks anytime we were out of our room, and did things outside where we could be far away from people.
Overall, it's a nice resort and we certainly loved being able to get away for a few days. However, I doubt we'll go back any time. Our room was fine, but its location left much to be desired because it was right near the check-in desk, so there was a lot of noise. On the first night, we had super obnoxious neighbors, which was beyond aggravating. First thing the next morning, I called the front desk because I was going to request a room change, but was thankfully told they were checking out a few hours later. One thing we've noticed at DVC locations is that because they are timeshares, people behave differently than they would in other hotels. And by differently, I mean worse. There's a very obvious lack of decorum. Newsflash…this is not your home, despite the sales propaganda. The rude behavior and inexplicable sense of entitlement are ridiculous. We aren't hotel snobs by any means; we've stayed at some absolutely spectacular hotels and we also stay at Hampton Inns. I don't care what the hotel is, certain behavior is acceptable and other behavior isn't. Period. A little consideration for your fellow guests is not asking much.
just like Vero Beach... I don't know why they use WDW key cards |
We lucked out with pretty nice weather over the four days – two sunny days and two overcast days – so we were able to enjoy the beach. Unfortunately, it wasn't located right at the resort, so we had to drive over to it, but it was just beautiful and relatively deserted, so we spent a lot of time there. We also hung out in our room because we had a great balcony and we'd been saving the second season of The Mandalorian to watch on this trip (which was awesome, BTW). The resort TV showed recordings of three different Magic Kingdom fireworks shows and the candlelight processional from Epcot, so we did a little taste of Disney, because the resort's theming is fairly subdued.
yes, they have Dole Whip! |
We found an app that offers scavenger hunts in different cities, so we did our first one of New Year's Day and it was pretty fun. We'll definitely be doing these in other cities because we were able to pretend we were on The Amazing Race. LOL!
Finally, as I wrote about yesterday, we've set a goal to visit all 50 states in 2021. Since Hilton Head is so close to Georgia, we had planned on driving into Georgia before heading home. We have all of the states planned out, but Florida was contingent on us taking a trip to WDW this year, which we're not yet sure we'll be doing. So we decided to drive to both Florida and Georgia to get them off our list! South Carolina was obviously the first state we were in, but we couldn't take the pic until we were on our way back from Georgia and Florida yesterday, which is why that picture was taken after dark.
While Hilton Head may not be one of our favorite places we've ever visited, it was a nice to relax, celebrate our anniversary, and ring in the new year! As always, it's so fun to travel, but nice to go home, and I can't even describe how excited I am to see Ginny! My mom kindly watched her for us, which is such a gift!
Goodbye, 2020! |
Happy Tails to you!
