While I try to show gratitude throughout the year,
Thanksgiving is a perfect time to reflect on all that is good in my life. When I began creating this list yesterday, it
got out of control quickly, which is certainly a good problem to have – too
many things for which to be thankful! I
decided to limit myself to thirteen things, given the year.
13) Strong, intelligent females who were, in one way or
another, pioneers that paved the way for women of my generation.
12) Animal rights organizations that fight on behalf of
those who cannot speak for themselves.
11) Animal rescue organizations that save innocent animals who
have suffered at the hands of despicable humans.
10) Teachers – ones I had, ones I taught with, and ones I
work with now – your passion and commitment to bettering the world are remarkable.
9) Amazing friends who inspire me in admirable and
entertaining ways and keep me sane when life gets crazy. I am so very grateful for their encouraging words.
8) Two phenomenal professors/bosses who challenge me, share
their expertise with me, and provide opportunities that enrich both my learning and
my life.
7) The luxury of being unsure about where the path I am on
is leading me. I am often asked, “What
are you going to do when you finish this degree?” and I honestly have no
idea. But I am loving the journey.
6) Being able to travel and explore beyond my own
backyard. The memories are priceless.
5) My extended family – far too many of whom are much
further away than I would like, but I love and miss them terribly.
4) My parents – all four of them – my own mom and dad, and
C’s mom and dad. I just adore them and their
love means the world to me.
3) My brothers and soon-to-be sister. Siblings by chance, but friends by
choice. Love, love, love, love, love
them.
2) My dogs – including my mom’s dog and my brother’s dog – who
keep me warm when I’m cold, who lick my tears when I cry, and who greet me with
wagging tails and unbridled love and excitement whether I’ve been gone one
minute or one week. There is no
substitute for their loyalty and devotion.
1) My husband of almost 19 years, who is incredibly funny
and fills my life with laughter.
To me, he is the most perfect person on the planet and I love the life
we have built together. He never fails
to astound me with his intelligence and integrity; he worked full-time while
simultaneously earning his master’s degree and supporting me in every sense of
the word. He is selfless and has always
encouraged me to follow my dreams, and is by my side every step of the
way.
Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!
Happy Tails to you!
