Chelsea: A Life in Photos

Having had some time to process what happened last week, I decided to write a “final” post about Chelsea.  I was going to do a sad song/“Lovely Lyrics” post, because I have shed more tears this past week than I can possibly count.

However, while I looked through photos to include in the post, it dawned on me that this one little dog brought so much sunshine into my life that it would be disingenuous for me to write anything sad.  These photos document a wonderful 16+ years together and instead of focusing on the fact that she is no longer with us, I thought I’d focus on the time we did share.

When we got Chelsea, each of my brothers had a Dachshund, named Muggsi and Holly.  This short-legged trio was like the Three Musketeers, but female, so we called them the "Powerpuff Girls" – Blossom, Bubbles, & Buttercup – because they were small and cute, but decidedly tough.  Silly, I know, but it worked!  So last Tuesday, when we had to gather up our little girl’s body and take her to the vet for cremation, we wrapped her up in her Powerpuff Girls blanket for the ride.  Holding her in that blanket felt like the most fitting way to say goodbye to the last of the Original Three.

During that ride, I could not help but think of what Sirius tells Harry in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban:

A week passed, and then yesterday, I picked up her ashes from the vet.  During that ride home, it was a different quote that came to mind:

Lucky, indeed.

they give unconditional love.
For me, they are the role model for being alive."

Obviously I had to be kind of choosy - as you might imagine, we have thousands of photos of Chelsea!  This is one of my favorites, though...she was beside C on the couch and tucked her little face into the pocket of his hoodie and fell asleep.  Love, love, love!

Happy Tails to you!
