Quarantine: Week 2

Two weeks into the quarantine, and I don't have much to report! During the down time when I'm not working, I've enjoyed hanging out with Ginny and watching my favorite piano players from Jellyrolls perform on Facebook and Instagram!

Ginny loves sleeping in my hair!

C has been working very long days, and I've been busy not only with my regular job, but also the university course I'm teaching – and the switch to doing things completely online has been a bit of an adjustment! One thing that has been fun is joining in on class meetings teachers are having with their students; it's great to see their faces and hear what they've been up to during this quarantine! And no matter where I'm working, Ginny has been up on the table or island in her bed or on the couch in a blanket, sleeping beside me, which is the best perk of all about working from home!

It is very apparent to us that she is lonely, as she doesn't have a history of being clingy, but now doesn't like when I am out of her sight. I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm concerned about how she will do when we have to return to work! She clearly misses having a buddy. Speaking of Riley, I received two very thoughtful gifts from friends, which were incredibly sweet. It's been 12 days without her and it still doesn’t seem real.

when I leave her with my mom
and work in another room,
all she does is watch and listen for me

she follows me everywhere now

I love this bracelet so much!

...so I'd be surrounded by rainbows

a message for the times

We've also done a few things around the house – hanging up some pictures and a set of shelves and de-cluttering the basement – nothing earth-shattering, but it's nice to feel productive about things we've been putting off. We put the shelves up to display our Starbucks mugs, which are often the only souvenir we bring home when we travel...you'll see we also have mugs displayed on shelves beside the kitchen window and we've got more in the cupboard! A good problem to have, in my opinion!

and more mugs!

Ginny also got a bath, which might not seem noteworthy, but this happens maybe three times per year and she is not a fan!

not loving it

pretty sure she had some unkind thoughts
on her mind at this moment

she was only mad at me for a few hours
and then we were friends again

We've gone for a couple of car rides throughout the week just to get Ginny out of the house, and today we went for a three-hour ride out into the country for a change of scenery. She loves being in the car, so the car rides are good for all of us!

So far, we are staying healthy and avoiding people. I will say that there are times I don't love technology because it makes it far too easy for people to contact you and when you're working from home, it's difficult to make the distinction between work time and home time. However, when I get to see my almost-eight-month old nephew and chat and sing with my almost-three-year-old niece, I'm reminded that technology is the one thing keeping all of us connected right now. I had a "quick check-in" planned with three of my friends and it turned into a one hour and forty-five minute call filled with lots of laughter and it did wonders for my spirits!

on the squirrels at the same time

One cute thing to share...we've always thought of Maddy as Meeko from Pocahontas and of Ginny as Mushu from Mulan. After we adopted Riley back in October, it definitely took some time for Ginny to warm up to the idea of another dog in the house. We'd catch her watching Riley from the opposite end of the couch and often joked that she was thinking, "You are one lucky bug!" - which is one of Mushu's comments to Cri-Kee in the movie. The day after Riley passed away, I found a mug online and it arrived this week and it is perfect.

Mushu and Cri-Kee!!!
This mug makes me so happy!!!

We'll see what this next week brings…it'll be exciting just to finally be done with the month of March!

Happy Tails to you!
