Life with Avalanche

It's been many weeks since I wrote about Avalanche simply because there's been a lot of other things going on in life, but he has continued to be an amazing dog! We love him so much and are so grateful for the joy he's brought into our life! I previously shared that initially he was not particularly lovey-dovey, and as he has settled in and grown more comfortable, he's definitely accepting more and more affection from us. He is still somewhat reserved/aloof in the giving of affection, but we get lots of tail wags and he makes it known he's happy to be with us at all times (following C pretty much anywhere he goes!). He loves to go for walks and gets very excited about car rides and is playing with toys more often; his signature move is to lean against our legs and let us hug and kiss him, which I am super thrilled with because he didn't allow this when we first brought him home!

Obviously I take a ton of photos because he is so handsome that it's impossible not to pull out my phone all the time!

When I leave for school in the morning, he's usually lazing about and when I go over to say goodbye for him, he puts a paw on my foot and I love it!

One day when we were in the car, we noticed that he likes to put his head on the top of the back seat and watch out the back window. I started documenting when he did it, and you can see that he does it all the time!

One thing that has definitely taken some getting used to is the sheer volume of fur...after eight short-haired miniature Dachshunds, we are constantly shocked by just how much dog hair is everywhere now! This picture is after I combed about one-third of one side of him! (soda can for reference!)

Disney 100: The Exhibition

2023 marks the 100th anniversary of The Walt Disney Company, which began under the name The Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio back in 1923.

In honor of this, a new exhibit opened at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, so we drove up for the day. Overall, it was an extremely well done exhibit and we enjoyed our time thoroughly. That being said, we were a little underwhelmed. This was due not to an inadequate job on the part of the exhibit's creators, but rather because we are pretty die hard Disney history people and there wasn't really anything in it that we didn't already know or hadn't already seen some version of before. We've been to the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco several times, which has repeatedly has blown us away; this exhibit felt like a watered down version of that. We've been to Walt Disney's birthplace in Chicago, we've been to his home of Marceline, MO, and we've taken many different "behind the scenes" tours at both WDW and Disneyland. So for those reasons, we were underwhelmed. The exhibit was beautiful and I would recommend it to any Disney fan who maybe hasn't had the opportunity to go to the museum in San Francisco.

The most insane thing to happen was that I bought a few posters in the gift shop and was checking out when the lady running the nest register said to me, "You look SO familiar!" She looked familiar to me as well, but you know how you sometimes can't place people when you see them in a different setting? That was me, searching for my brain to make a connection!  After chatting for a minute, she realized that I was friends with her daughter, who now lives in California! What a crazy small world! Their family is all about Disney as well, so even though she is retired, she is working at the Franklin Institute just for the Disney 100 Exhibit! Of course we took a picture and sent it to my friend!
