Today marks the 50th anniversary of “it’s a small
world” and it is one of our must-do attractions on every trip. This Disney classic opened at the New York World’s Fair on
April 22, 1964 and then subsequently opened at each of the theme parks on the
following dates:
Disneyland – May 28, 1966
Magic Kingdom – October 1, 1971
Tokyo Disneyland – April 15, 1983
Disneyland Paris – April 12, 1992
Hong Kong Disneyland – April 28, 2008
It is also expected to open at Shanghai Disneyland in
December 2015.
The song's message of peace and friendship is simple and straightforward, while the melody is infectious – perhaps these help explain how it has endured for a half-century – and it is one of those songs that makes me incredibly happy when I hear it!
It’s a Small World
It's a world of laughter, a world of tears
It's a world of hopes and a world of fears,
It's a world of hopes and a world of fears,
There's so much that we share
That it's time we're aware
It's a small world after all.
It's a small world after all,
It's a small world after all,
It's a small world after all,
It's a small world after all,
It's a small, small world.
There is just one moon and one golden sun
And a smile means friendship to everyone,
And a smile means friendship to everyone,
Though the mountains divide
And the oceans are wide,
It's a small world after all.
It's a small world after all,
It's a small world after all,
It's a small world after all,
It's a small world after all,
It's a small, small world.
