Fall Trip to CA: Mickey's Halloween Party

Since our trip was a little on the lengthy side, I've broken it up into a series of posts; links to the additional posts can be found at the bottom of this one!

We've never gone to Disneyland in the fall, and we love all of the autumn and Halloween decorations at WDW, so we were excited about seeing what DL had to offer.  We also wanted to experience Mickey's Halloween Party and compare it with Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Florida.

I'll say this:  there is no comparison to be made.  The WDW version is awesome and the DL version is not awesome.  We've been to MNSSHP a number of times, including 2013, 2014, and 2015.  Highlights are the Boo to You parade, the HalloWishes fireworks, and the appearance Headless Horseman – in addition to amazing, immersive theming.  MHP at DL had none of these things.

One thing that was pretty great was Haunted Mansion Holiday, which was Haunted Mansion featuring the characters from The Nightmare Before Christmas.  It was SO amazing.  However, it was not exclusive to the party, so all guests visiting DL during the fall/Halloween season can enjoy this version.

Space Mountain is similar in that it is re-themed and called Space Mountain:  Ghost Galaxy.  We rode it and it was very entertaining, but again, this is not just for MHP, so guests can experience it during non-party hours.

Finally, I was insanely excited to see was the Halloween Screams fireworks show.  While I love fireworks as much as the next person, we'd read that Zero, the adorable dog from The Nightmare Before Christmas, makes an appearance in the sky.  When it happened, I could almost not contain myself.  The picture is blurry – poor lighting and distance result in terrible photos on my phone – but seeing that giant Zero swooping around in the sky around Sleeping Beauty Castle and King Arthur Carrousel made my entire night!

So in conclusion, we were glad to have experienced MHP, but for us, it is just not worth the extra ticket cost because we didn't feel there was much bang for our buck.  We had a nice time, but there was nothing that would make us attend again in the future.  But Zero was fabulous and the projections on Sleeping Beauty Castle were very impressive!
