Las Vegas October 2018

One decided benefit of not teaching this year is the freedom to travel during non-peak times. Being on a teacher schedule and the limitations on travel that come with said schedule was always one of my least favorite parts of being a teacher! Yes, I love to teach, but I really, really, really love to travel. So C and I are going to make the most of this flexible schedule while I am not teaching!

I was supposed to go to Las Vegas to visit my dad in July, but that trip got cancelled because my mom was in the hospital. I wasn't sure when I could reschedule my trip, but I decided to keep an eye on prices for flights out there. When a $39 flight popped up on a Tuesday night, I had to jump on it, and that is certainly something I would not have been able to do if I were teaching this year!

I am so fortunate to be able to take advantage of such a great deal and fly out to visit my dad. C and I got off the plane after our flight home from Los Angeles on Monday morning, and Tuesday evening, I was back at the airport!

My flight was delayed for two hours and didn't end up leaving until 11:20 pm, meaning I didn't arrive in Las Vegas until 1:30 am! I did sleep a little bit on the flight, but seeing as I was traveling by myself, it was not as restful as it is when I'm with C, knowing he's keeping an eye on things. I mostly passed the time watching "The Office" while the guy in the seat beside me kept falling over into my space while he slept. Oh well.

I stayed in Las Vegas Wednesday through Friday and had a great visit with my dad. I know most people only think of the Strip and all of the casinos when the think of Vegas, but outside of that specific area, it is really a very beautiful area. There were two places I really wanted to see that I'd come across on Instagram, and both lived up to my expectations and excitement!

The first was a place called Seven Magic Mountains, which is an art exhibit not too far from where my dad lives. It is literally seven stacks of huge painted boulders. That might not seem too thrilling, but it is beautiful and I loved it!

The second place was a coffee shop called Bad Owl Coffee, whose décor is in the flavor of Harry Potter. Obviously, I found everything to be awesome! The food and coffee were also really great! And actually my dad discovered a second location, so we also went there, and it is equally cute!

Friday came all too soon for my liking, and my dad dropped me off at the airport around 3:00 pm. Although I flew to Las Vegas on Frontier, I flew home on Spirit and was lucky to have scored one of their Big Font Seats, so my flight home was super comfy!

Hopefully I'll be able to get out there for another visit soon!

Happy Tails to you!
