Spring Break 2023: Geneva

Switzerland has been on our travel bucket list forever, but we never seemed to find a chunk of time that would allow us to spend long enough there given how many places we want to see. After years of saying "someday," we decided to go for Spring Break and see what we could, with the plan of making one, if not several, return trips in the future. We booked this trip before last school year even ended, with the plan for me to use a personal day before and after Spring Break to maximize our time.

You may recall the Labor Day incident when my personal leave was denied. The only good to come of that was this trip, which was the trade off. I had to make a choice of which personal leave I wanted - the one day in September to attend Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party after our Labor Day weekend cruise, or two days around Spring Break to come to Switzerland. While I was - and still am! - very annoyed about the money we lost on the WDW tickets, it was obviously a no brainer to choose this trip.

This post covers Geneva, which is the first Swiss city we visited. We dropped Avalanche off at the kennel on Friday, took a lyft to the airport, and flew on United overnight. The plane had a 2-3-2 configuration, meaning we had two seats to ourselves, so that was completely fantastic; it was pretty turbulent for the first 90 minutes, but overall, the 7.5-hour flight was fine!

We stayed at the Novotel, which put most things within a convenient walking distance, and spent Saturday and Sunday just exploring the city. Unfortunately, it rained both days and most things are closed on Sundays, but after that atrocious month of March, I was more than happy to have some quiet down time. Yesterday, we took the train to Lausanne for the day; the weather was beautiful and we had a lovely time. Plus, I absolutely love train rides! One of the highlights of the day was me working up the nerve to initiate a very brief conversation with a native French speaker about his Husky - my spoken French is extremely rusty, but the Husky connection was too good of an opportunity to pass up!

We are currently on the train headed to Bern and I'm excited to see another part of Switzerland!

Happy Tails to you!
