Winter Trip to Europe: Paris

Monday, January 11

We flew from Oslo to Paris and landed around 8 pm, took the train from the airport to the train station, and then took a train to central Paris where our hotel was located.  We spent one night at the Novotel Hotel located near the Chatelet – Les Halles train station.  By the time we finally checked in, it was almost 10 pm and we were tired and hungry!  We had a most decidedly un-French dinner at Pizza Hut because it was right around the corner from our hotel, and more importantly, it was open.

Tuesday, January 12

We really only had one objective for a our limited time in Paris – to visit the Eiffel Tower.  Last time we were in Paris in 2007, we could not get tickets and the "standby"/no-advance-tickets wait was 3+ hours.  So we walked around the base of the Eiffel Tower and took photos, but did not get to go up the tower.  This time, we were determined.  However, we were perplexed because we could not buy advanced tickets online and we were worried it would be a repeat of last time.  We figured if we had to wait in a super long line, then that's what we would do.  So when we got over to the Eiffel Tower on Tuesday morning, we were shocked to see no line at all!  We felt like we'd won the lottery!  We spent a few hours at the Eiffel Tower and enjoyed the spectacular views of Paris!  As a lover of math and geometry, I seriously could have taken a million photos of this structure!

While we had a great time at Eiffel Tower, we were anxious to get to out next destination, so after getting Nutella and banana crepes for lunch, we checked out of the hotel and boarded a train bound for Disneyland Paris!  Stay tuned to read all about it!
