Weekend in San Antonio

As you may recall, our flight home from Orlando is January was delayed by almost six hours, which resulted in some travel vouchers on Frontier! Score! For us, that's like winning the lottery. We discuss traveling every single day. When we are on a trip, we are planning and plotting future trips. Many moons ago, we parlayed one pair of paid tickets from Toronto to Orlando into four round trips by voluntarily giving up our seats multiple times…aaahhhh, the freedom that comes with being students!

We decided to look at where Frontier flies direct from Washington, D.C. because whenever possible, we avoid connections. We'd rather drive several hours to another airport to get a direct flight than purposefully taking flights requiring plane changes and connections. The only other criteria for our decision was that we wanted it to be a place we hadn't previously visited. And so, San Antonio was the clear winner! I'd been there once for a conference, but I stayed outside of the city, so I didn't see anything while I was there!  Also, we wanted to go before it was hot, so March seemed like the perfect time.

It happened to also be my most hated day of the year...Daylight Savings Time and the loss of an hour! Honestly, can we just do away with this nonsense?!? Every year I loathe the spring forward time change! It makes NO sense to me! The only good thing is that when you're away and having fun and staying up late and sleeping in, that hour doesn't impact you nearly as much as it does at home!

We flew down to San Antonio very early on Saturday, March 10 and pretty much spent three days wandering around the city eating, visiting breweries, and taking in the sights. A fabulous weekend! C had read some great reviews of a deli called Schilo's and it was so good that ended up eating breakfast there all three mornings! The River Walk was great during the day when it was filled with families and tourists, but I didn't care for it at night when it was filled with loud, boisterous, drunk people! Just not my scene! On Saturday, it was about 90 degrees and sunny (too hot), then about 70 degrees and rainy on Sunday (which does not make for the best photos), and finally about 70 degrees and sunny on Monday (perfection!). One of my favorite places was called Steel City Pops; we went there twice and would have continued going there every day with no shame whatsoever if we were local! Both our flight down to Texas and our flight home on Monday evening were uneventful, cementing this as a trip without a single hitch!

Our takeaway is that San Antonio was a perfect place for a weekend getaway!

My mom sent us this while we were away...
