Summer Adventure 2024: The Prelude

Before we could really get our summer trip started, we had to take Avalanche up to Canada for summer camp. C's parents once again kindly agreed to watch him for us (you may recall that he spent part of last summer there while we were in South America), so on Friday, we drove up to Toronto, stayed for a brief visit, and left him in their very capable hands! C and I were able to go and have lunch with my aunt and uncle as well while we were in Canada, too, which was wonderful!

Yesterday, we drove from Toronto to Chicago, dropped our car off at a long-term parking facility near O'Hare (because we're flying back into O'Hare at the end of July), took a lyft from there back to our hotel near Midway (because that's where we are flying out of today), enjoyed some Chicago pizza, checked out of our hotel this morning, and are currently waiting for our flight to Los Angeles. It's been a busy few days, but we are finally on our way to Disneyland for four nights!

Avalanche is an awesome car traveler

he loves every single rest area we stop at
and must personally inspect as much of each one
as possible despite our desire to get back on the road quickly

a stop at Primanti Bros in PA is a must

so at home at C's parents' house

he is ridiculous at times...he was startled by
loud noises on the TV and tried to "hide"
under this very small end table proving he has no
concept of how big he is

we tried to take a family pic before we left him
but he was absolutely not in the mood

he wouldn't let us out of his sight when
we were packing the car and we were worried that it was going
to turn into a whole thing, but C's mom put his leash on him
to take him for a walk and he happily went
without so much as a backward glance!

we were only in Canada about 36 hours and then drove
through Detroit over to Chicago yesterday

only spent one night in Chicago, which
is not nearly long enough!
