30 in 30: Day 2

We had a great day today because we spent a good chunk of it in the Chicago area, which is where we lived from 1999-2001!

Day 2 Stats
Starting Mileage: 34,355
Ending Mileage: 34,820
Miles Traveled: 465
States Visited: OH, KY, IN, MI, IL

We hit the road pretty early, but made a stop at Busken's Bakery, which S1 recommended; she's lived in Cincinnati and told us we would love it. She was so right! The ladies in the bakery could not have been nicer and they got pretty excited when we said it was our first time in there. They made recommendations and gave us free cookies because we were first timers and we left with a box of some of the most delicious pastries ever!

We once again had great weather for our drive and we got three more states off of our 2021 list! Honestly the only noteworthy thing about the actual drive was that on one section of I-465 in Indiana, the road was seven lanes wide with a generous shoulder on both the left and the right. It seemed odd for this not-particularly-populated area to have such a wide highway!

the bridge is painted on
both sides of the road

it's known as the
Broad Ripple Village Rainbow Bridge

excited to discover that
White Castle has
Impossible sliders!

When we moved away from Chicago, the very last meal we ate there was a stuffed spinach deep dish pizza from Giordano's, which is our favorite. So of course we made sure we had that same pizza today! We actually got it while we were in Indiana, which was strictly a timing decision, and loved it just as much as we had remembered!

Once we arrived in Illinois, we made a few stops before checking in to our hotel, and after resting for a while, we went out for a late dinner to a place we would go almost every Friday night after we both got home from work. It was fun to reminisce about all those years ago!

so sweet!

this mural of Robin Williams
is huge and absolutely amazing

stunning

I loved it so much!
#firstcryoftheday

we went to Walt Disney's birthplace

the house has been restored and it's
in a residential neighborhood

it looks like any other house,
but I experienced the same sensation
that I have when I'm standing on
Main Street, USA in Disneyland
#secondcryoftheday

we stopped by one of the
apartments we lived in

so many happy memories here!

I could remember so clearly all of the times
Chelsea and I went in and out of the apartment
building together through this entryway

Portillo's / Barnelli's

I love the vibe in here!

neon lights and doo wop music!

and of course, the wiener dog

Oberweis ice cream for dessert!

It turned out to be a pretty emotional day overall, and one I know I'll fondly recall in the future.

Happy Tails to you!
